Made up of 305 moths, Atlas depicts the changing world around us. Just as the mythological Titan was condemned to support the world on his shoulders for eternity, we are critically reliant on invertebrates as the bedrock of the animal food chain.

30% of the original unframed price from each sale will be donated to Butterfly Conservation via Work for Good to promote butterfly and moth conservation projects. This is a limited edition of 250.

    Images

Images shown here have been optimised for web viewing from the 500ppi originals. The copyright statement '© Wren & Bee' will not appear on the print. A 'Wren & Bee' digitally embossed logo will be visible in the bottom-right corner of the print, as shown.

    Photography

Moths were attracted to a Skinner light-box with 2x 20V actinic bulbs overnight and released the following morning. Locations included Essex, Dorset and Argyll & Bute. All individual photographs were taken between April-October 2022 using a Sony RX10 IV camera (20.1 megapixel sensor) with the following range of settings: ISO<1000, F2.4-4 aperture and 1/100-1/2000 shutter speed. In most cases, a flash was not required. Photos were subsequently cropped and collated in Photoshop. Note that in most cases, the legs and antennae of the moths have been digitally erased to aid collation.

    Artist

James Bashford is a neurology doctor, who devotes much of his spare time to the photography of moths, butterflies and birds. Passionate about the intimate relationships between the Earth, biodiversity and humans, his artwork attempts to raise awareness of the climate crisis. Each piece comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
